If you’re a swing dancer and you haven’t heard about The Lindy Hopper’s Fund yet, this is dead important. Essentially, it’s a not-for-profit organisation run by a group of passionate and caring Lindy Hoppers (including many names you’ll know well), to help ensure the quality of life of our senior Lindy Hoppers, the creators and innovators of our dance. This is Lindy Hop’s own charity. If you’re going to donate your pennies to any cause, make it this one.
Here’s some information from the Fund’s website:
“We would not be here dancing today if it weren’t for the pioneers of the dance we love. Our elder Lindy Hop idols have lived through incredible times and are now in need of our help. The Lindy Hopper’s Fund gives you an opportunity to financially help in areas such as medical care, rent, and utilities. Please take the time to understand what they’ve given you – the Lindy Hop – and think what you might be able to give them – a better life. 100% of your contributions will help support our elder Lindy Hoppers.
The Lindy Hopper’s Fund of America is a non-profit, national human services organization that helps our elder generation of Lindy Hoppers who danced at the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, in theater, film and on television. Through a broad spectrum of social, health and housing programs, The Lindy Hopper’s Fund will address their essential and critical needs.”
You can become an annual member, at a variety of contribution levels, from just $5 upwards. Donations are tax-deductible as well.
